I recently got this very curious CD in the mail titled Songs To Make Dogs Happy. According to the provided info on the back of the disc, this was a "researched CD based upon canine participants' decisions as to what THEY, themselves, would like to hear in songs." It' s put together by the Laurel Canyon Animal Co. & Intuitive Animal Communicator, Kim Ogden. 200 canines were asked about what they'd like in the lyrical content and music type. Very intrigued and fascinated and somewhat skeptical (to say the least!), I took the CD home and tried it out on my new puppy, Bella, and 4 yr. old Lab mix, Kona. To my surprise they did indeed like it! Some of the songs didn't seem to keep their attention but a couple of the tunes were definite hits such as "Squeaky-Deakey" which uses real squeky toys and "Adventure Dog" which has barking in it. "Scratch My Back" has panting and that got their ears up too. Kona laid down on the floor and simply listened. Bella the puppy reacted by cocking her head sideways a few times at the "Squeaky-Deakey" song, then running to the back door when "Adventure Dog" came on. Listen tomorrow 7/30/08 on The Paws Report around 3:30 to hear snippets from this CD. In all fairness, you'll want your dog to listen and let him or her be the judge of whether its good music or not. To me it sounds like a really bad demo with the music churned out on a toy Casio keyboard and a drum machine with off-key vocals. In other words, this CD is truly for dogs, not humans! Let's hope your dog doesn't have perfect pitch!
