An event to help the homeless and poor will be held Saturday in Louisville.The 3rd Annual St. Vincent de Paul Friends of the Poor Walk begins at 10:00am at Churchill Downs. Organizers say they're expecting between 500 and 800 people.Event chairman Mike Lutes says registration is at 9 a.m."They can come to register enter Churchill Downs’ parking lot off Central Ave. at gate 1 which is in between the track itself and the Kentucky Derby Museum. There’ll be people outside directing them where to go and as they go into gate one they’ll go to the paddock pavilion media area and it’ll be marked well," he said.Lutes says all the proceeds go to help local families and individuals with rent, food, and basic needs. He says St. Vincent de Paul serves those in need with a variety of programs including six homeless shelters for men, women and children, a community soup kitchen and four area thrift stores throughout Louisville and Southern Indiana.
