by Stephanie CrosbyElementary level applications for Jefferson County Public Schools are due in one week, a deadline that’s been extended because of the district’s snow days. The original deadline was yesterday.Student assignment specialist Barbara Dempsey says the school board chose to extend the deadline because weather-related closings could have caused some parents to miss the application window.“Parents actually go to the elementary schools to get the applications," says Dempsey, "so on the days schools were closed, parents could not go to the elementary schools and pick up the applications.”Dempsey says parents also must drop off the completed application at the elementary schools themselves. She says families will learn of their student’s assignment around May first.
