From WFPL's Cassidy HerringtonLouisville government and education officials gathered Wednesday to launch the 2009 edition of the Kindergarten Countdown. The summer program is designed to prepare incoming kindergarten students and their parents for the school year.Dozens of pre-schoolers also took part in the kickoff at the Louisville Free Public Library, where Metro United Way CEO Joe Tolan was among the speakers.“I can’t think of anything more important than you all and all your friends around the community being successful right out of the gate in school because how we start school has an awful lot to do with how we finish school,” Tolan said.Registration for the Kindergarten Countdown program is available during the summer at any Louisville Free Public Library location.
