Classical 90.5 WUOL announces the 2013 Classical 90.5/PNC Wealth Management Young Artist Competition! Young musicians between the ages of 8-18 years-old are invited to participate. Previous winners have included Neil Rao, Anne Richardson and Spencer Sharp. Sharp spend time performing in Spain this past August, Rao is a student at the Curtis Institute and Richardson is in the pre-college program at The Juilliard School.
“We are very excited to hear this year's musicians,” said Classical 90.5 Program Director Daniel Gilliam. “This young artist competition is different any in the region, in that our goal is to highlight the best classical musicians on the radio and online. We want to give them the best exposure to our audience, which numbers in the tens of thousands."
Soloists and ensembles from across the region are encouraged to register by October 21, 2013 at WUOL.org/yac. The competition (closed to the public) will be held on November 1st at the studios of Louisville Public Media, 619 S. Fourth Street for three pre-selected judges. Previous judges have included local teachers and musicians from the Louisville Orchestra and the University of Louisville School of Music. First place winners will receive a $200 cash prize. Winners and honorable mentions will also be invited to participate in a live broadcast performance on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at noon in front of a live audience. The Winners’ Recital will be featured on “Lunchtime Classics,” a weekly concert series presented by Classical 90.5. This performance is free and open to the public.
Participants can fill out an application online at WUOL.org/YAC or print and mail a hard copy to 619 South Fourth St., Louisville, KY 40202 (mail-in applications must be postmarked or submitted online no later than October 21, 2013). An application fee of $20 is required.
