Louisville Orchestra to Tackle Tchaikovsky's 'Violin Concerto' in January

Louisville Orchestra | Saul Young

Tchaikovsky’s “Violin Concerto” is a piece with two sides. It’s both peaceful and passionate — which makes sense when you consider the composer wrote it while vacationing to escape his disastrous marriage.

The work was completed within a month, despite the middle movement getting a complete rewrite, and has become one of the most well-known violin concertos.

The Louisville Orchestra will tackle the composition in January; violinist Gabriel Lefkowitz, who joined the Louisville Orchestra as concertmaster in 2016, will solo.

This performance is part of the Louisville Orchestra’s 80th season.

Finnish composer Jean Sibelius’ Seventh and final symphony will also be performed during the concert, which will be led by guest conductor Jayce Ogren.

The Saturday Classics Concert audience will also enjoy the “Overture to Estrella De Soria” by Swedish composer Franz Berwald, which opens the evening concert.

There will be performances on both January 12th and 13th at the Kentucky Center for Performing Arts. More information is available here.
