After First Meeting Of New U of L Trustees, No Ramsey Resignation

The first meeting of the reconstituted University of Louisville Board of Trustees has ended with the job status of school President James Ramsey apparently unchanged.

Ramsey was expected to offer his resignation to the new board. But Chairman Junior Bridgeman told reporters after the meeting that Ramsey did not submit his resignation, nor was he asked to resign.

Bridgeman said the new board will decide on Ramsey's status after it reviews the matter more.

“I would just suggest and ask that you give the board the time to understand everything, and then everything will become evident,” he said.

The board met for more than an hour in closed session to discuss personnel and possible litigation.

Ramsey left the meeting after about 40 minutes and had no comment afterward.

Gov. Matt Bevin replaced the board last month amid board infighting over several issues and recent scandals that have plagued the school. Ramsey said at the time that he would offer his resignation to the new board.

Attorney General Andy Beshear has filed suit to block Bevin’s board appointments, saying Bevin doesn’t have the authority to replace the trustees.
