The field is set for Saturday’s 141st running of the Kentucky Derby.
Among the hundreds of journalists tracking the 20 contenders in the Run for the Roses is Mike Watchmaker, national handicapper for the Daily Racing Form.
He tells us that it comes as no surprise that American Pharoah has been installed as the early Derby favorite. The contender with 5-2 early odds will run from the 17th post position.
But that's not his choice.
"I respect American Pharoah, but I didn't pick him. I actually picked Dortmund, who is going to be the second choice in the race," Watchmaker said.
He also suggests Frosted and Upstarted as horses that could get a good return on a bet.
