Louisville’s Archbishop Joseph Kurtz is meeting Tuesday with President Obama.
This is his first meeting with President Obama since being elected president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in November 2013.
The private meeting was requested by Kurtz, said Conference of Catholic Bishops spokesman Don Clemmer. The meeting is closed to the press and Clemmer could not speculate on what the two would discuss.
Clemmer said Kurtz’s two predecessors Cardinal Timothy Dolan and Cardinal Francis George also met with President Obama during their tenure.
Kurtz has served one year of this three year term.
