Kentucky Lottery Wants Its Games Online

The Kentucky Lottery board says it will negotiate with a company to offer lottery games online and hopes to have the project ready sometime next year.

At this time, the Kentucky Lottery doesn't know which games will be available online, according to spokesman Chip Polston. Those details are still being worked out with GTECH, the vendor that won a competitive bid process.

“It would make sense that the very broadly popular games, which is Mega Millions and Powerball, would be a pretty obvious guess as the two that we would go out with,” said Polston.

The Kentucky Lottery also needs to adapt to a changing online market and find new ways to make a profit, he said.

“People like to do business online and its just a channel that a lot of folks are accustomed to now that will give us the opportunity, we feel, to reach out to new players and continue to grow our games," said Polston.
On Monday, "Vice President of Finance Rick Kelley said in a news release that sales for fiscal year 2015 through October were $287 million, which is $13.5 million more than the same period a year earlier but $8.2 million below budget," according to the Associated Press.
