University of Louisville football coach Bobby Petrino says senior wide receiver Devante Parker will miss six to eight weeks with a broken left small toe, leaving the Cardinals without their top target for next Monday night's season opener against Miami.
Parker injured the foot in Friday night's practice and was to undergo surgery today.Petrino says Parker’s absence will mean some adjustments are in store for his offense."Certainly, when you miss a guy like that, we’re going to be a little bit different. We’re not going to have a guy step in and say, ‘okay, you’re now Devante.’ We’ve got to be able to utilize the weapons that we have, the things they do well," Petrino said. Parker's injury deals a big blow to Louisville's offense as it enters the Atlantic Coast Conference against the Hurricanes. Parker had nine catches, including a touchdown reception against Miami last December in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
