Plenty of music is left to be heard before Beck closes down Forecastle Festival 2014 tonight. WFPL arts reporter Erin Keane and Sean Cannon, a DJ from our sister station WFPK, have some thoughts on who you might want to check out. Here are suggestions for Sunday: Lucius (Mast Stage, 2:45 p.m.) You know how perfect live harmonies send chills down your spine and give you the second sight required to see the face of the Lord? What I’m getting at is, you better not miss Lucius. – Sean Co-sign. I saw them open for Tegan and Sara earlier this year, and now I want Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig front and center at every party. – Erin Sun Kil Moon (WFPK Port Stage, 4:45 p.m.) Sun Kil Moon’s Mark Kozelek has been at it for 25 years, and he still manages to write expressive, intimate, sometimes-cathartic songs that criss-cross the emotional spectrum effortlessly. – Sean Sharon Van Etten (Boom Stage, 3:15 p.m.) Sharon Van Etten has come into her own over the last couple of years. While she’s always had a palpable confidence in her abilities as a deeply confessional songwriter, that confidence is becoming even more apparent in her vocal performance and musical arrangements. – Sean If you didn’t know, you know now. – Erin Jenny Lewis (Mast Stage, 6 p.m.) Her single “Just One of the Guys” is this summer’s moody anthem. And now the video is out, and you’ve been watching Jenny Lewis all week, resplendent in a Lisa Frank-styled suit and guitar, vamping with a backing band of Hollywood stars. (Even Anne Hathaway is cool when she’s with Jenny Lewis!). We can’t wait for "The Voyager," her first solo album in six years, to land. – Erin The Replacements ( Mast Stage, 7:45 p.m.) Newly reunited, the ‘Mats (Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson, who’s been side-manning for Axl Rose in Guns ‘n’ Roses) have been playing the festival circuit since last year’s Riot Fest, and if this year’s Coachella show (which Westerberg performed entirely from an on-stage couch) is any indication, they remain as unpredictable as ever. The venerable post-punk trailblazers are considered to be the not-so-missing link between REM and Nirvana – catchy and melodic with a ragged, fiercely iconoclastic sensibility. I’m holding out for a start-to-finish "Let It Be" set, but anything could happen — people-pleasing’s not exactly their style. – Erin You can find a full Forecastle schedule and more information here. Stay tuned tomorrow for photos and a final review of the festival. And follow WFPL and WFPK on Twitter ( here and here) for on-the-spot updates.
