Kentucky transportation officials on Friday closed the ramp from northbound Interstate 65 to westbound I-64 in downtown Louisville out of concerns for "apparent" deterioration in a support column. The ramp will stay closed pending an inspection. The interchange is in the area of the downtown part of the Ohio River Bridges Project, and contractor Walsh Construction will have a structural engineer join transportation cabinet engineers during the "thorough" inspection, the cabinet said in a news release. In a statement, Downtown Crossing project manager Andy Barber described the ramp's closure as a "precaution" until the inspection is done.In 2011, Indiana officials abruptly closed the Sherman Minton Bridge connecting western Louisville and New Albany because of issues on that bridge.
