Louisville's Homeless Event Providing Free Social, Medical Services Wednesday

Louisville’s homeless population can receive free medical and social services Wednesday during the city’s 13th annual Project Homeless Connect and Stand Down event.

The event is a collaborative effort of community service organizations that serves as a one-stop shop for hundreds of area homeless residents each year, says Joe Hamilton with Louisville Metro’s Community Services. “The event is mostly single chronic homeless individuals and not so much families. But in Louisville overall we are seeing more homeless families," he says.TARC will be providing free transportation throughout the day to the event from emergency shelters and participants can get food, clothing, medical evaluations, and identification cards, he says.Last year, the event served around 645 individuals, around 200 were estimted to be veterans, officials say.The event will be held at the Salvation Army located at the Old Male High School campus on Brook Street and will last between 8:30am-3 pm.
