Tom Jurich Looks Back On 15 Years at U of L

University of Louisville Athletic Director Tom Jurich is marking a professional milestone this week.It was 15 years ago that Jurich came to U of L from Colorado State University.Jurich says the Louisville athletic department has been successful because of its staff of talented people.Among other things, Jurich and his team have overseen a major upgrade of its athletic facilities since he arrived in 1997."You had a beautiful campus, and the most ugly front lawn in the history of the world, meaning on I-65. My little limited marketing background told me you’ve got 100,000 cars a day going up and down this interstate, you’ve got a beautiful, beautiful view of everything, yet you’ve got an ugly piece of property."That property is now the site of the Owsley Brown Frazier Cardinal Park, which includes several athletic facilities.Jurich says he’s also proud of the strides U of L has made in gender equity and the emergence of its soccer, baseball and other programs into national prominence.During a press conference today, Jurich said he has no plans to leave Louisville or retire."I want to keep going as long as they'll have me," he said.
