Ideas to Address Louisville Budget Shortfall: State of the News

Louisville, like many U.S. cities, is facing challenges with a serious budget shortfall.  Metro Government faces a potential $42 million deficit over the next two years, with $12 million that must be cut over the next six months and a projected $30 million deficit next fiscal year.On State of the News Friday, WFPL's political editor Phillip M. Bailey reviewed the dire situation and discussed some of the ideas brought to Mayor Greg Fischer to help mitigate the shortfall, including cancelling or amending the contract with Greater Louisville Inc., rerouting funds from the Downtown Development Corporation, merging the fire and EMS departments, and even collecting occupational taxes from performers at the KFC Yum Center.
