New Indiana Laws Go Into Effect July 1

Dozens of laws passed by the 2011 Indiana General Assemblygo into effect tomorrow.They include statewide bans on texting while driving and the sale and possession of synthetic marijuana.Women who seek an abortion will first have to view an ultrasound of the fetus unless they decline to do so in writing.People who fail or refuse a drug test given by an employer before they’re hired will have their unemployment benefits suspended. Large parts of a sweeping proposal aimed at cracking down on illegal immigrants were also set to become law July 1 but were blocked by a federal judge last week.Most of the laws passed by this year’s Kentucky General Assembly went into effect in early June.
