Bill Johnson of Elkton has again prevailed in the Republican primary for Kentucky Secretary of State. On election night, Johnson defeated Hilda Legg of Somerset by just over 1,100 votes, but Legg sought a recheck of voting machine tallies. The recanvass shows Johnson picking up five votes, and Legg gaining 11.“It was simply just the prudent thing to do. And I appreciate Mr. Johnson’s patience through this process," says Legg. "I very much appreciate every county clerk and the wonderful people here at the secretary of state’s office.”Bill Johnson now goes on to face Democratic nominee Alison Lundergan Grimes of Lexington in November. Grimes defeated Secretary of State Elaine Walker, who was appointed by Gov. Steve Beshear. That occurred in January, after Republican Secretary of State Trey Grayson resigned to accept a position at Harvard University.
