Women's Political Caucus to Hold Forum for Potential Candidates

Women interested in running for political office in Kentucky will get to hear from prominent female elected officials Saturday. It’s part of a political skills campaign school meant to encourage women to become more involved in politics.Women make up about 52 percent of the population in Kentucky, yet the state ranks near the bottom in the nation for women who hold office. That’s according to the Metropolitan Louisville Women’s Political Caucus, which is hosting the event. Spokesperson Virginia Woodward says there are several reasons why women don’t run for office."Women are doing a lot I mean they’re raising their families, they have careers and professions and it’s a very difficult business, politics is a very difficult business. And we just need more women to step up and be heard," she says.Woodward says the keynote speakers include State Auditor Crit Luallen and former State Senator Georgia Powers.Mayor Greg Fischer will also speak during the opening session.The campaign school will be from 8 am to 2 pm at the Holiday Inn Hurstbourne Parkway.
