Sypher Sentenced To 87 Months In Prison

The woman found guilty of trying to extort University of Louisville basketball coach Rick has been sentenced to seven years and three months in federal prison and two years of supervised release.Karen Sypher was emotional as U.S. District Judge Charles Simpson read her sentence Friday and called her crime “serious because it involved serious money.”Sypher was convicted last year of lying to the FBI, retaliating against a witness and trying to get money, cars and other items from Pitino after a tryst in 2003.During the sentencing, Sypher’s attorney David Nolan said his client was the victim, not the victimizer. He argued for leniency, noting that Sypher had no criminal record.Government prosecutors have asked that Sypher be taken into custody immediately.
