By Sheila AshAn event aimed at raising awareness about violence against women is Tuesday night. The Annual “Take Back the Night” vigil is outside the University of Louisville’s Red Barn on the Belknap Campus.The program is staged by U of L’s violence prevention program PEACC, which stands for Prevention, Education and Advocacy on Campus and in the Community.Director Sharon LaRue says the event began in the 1970’s."It was started where women decided they didn’t want to be afraid to walk at night and so they came together and made up this rally where they could have a speak out, they could have a candle light vigil and that they would march and they would do some shouts that were saying you know we’re going to take back the night," she said. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Tuesday.
