Major renovations to the Watterson Expressway between Preston Highway and I-64 began Tuesday night.Transportation Cabinet spokesperson Andrea Clifford says the Watterson is undergoing the same type of repairs as I-65."We're patching some concrete pavement sections that have either cracked or the slabs have settled," she says. "Then we go back and diamond-grind the entire roadway and all of the lanes to provide a smooth driving surface."But while construction in I-65 is going on around the clock, work on the Watterson will only be done between 8 PM and 6 AM on weekdays and all day on weekends. The work costs 10.9 million dollars and is expected to be completed by May. It's being paid for with federal stimulus funds. The I-65 repairs will continue through next month.
