Norton Preparing To Treat Ironman Participants

Norton Healthcare is preparing to treat overexerted athletes during this weekend's Ford Ironman competition. In last year's event, more than one fifth of the two thousand participants needed treatment for injuries ranging from heat exhaustion to potential organ failure.Norton Associate Vice President Steve Heilman says the Norton medical tent downtown will treat any patients they can to lessen the burden on area hospitals."Given the fact that there's 400 people seeking care, we tried to do this so the minor illnesses don't bombard our emergency departments in the whole city of Louisville," he says. "If you threw an extra 400 people into the ER system, you'd overwhelm all the ERs."The triathlon begins Sunday morning.
