The History & Future of the Advice Column

Dear State of Affairs: Among my escalating financial troubles, my inability to maintain a positive and meaningful relationship, and the ruthless winter weather, I find myself in need of some guidance and advice. Where should I turn for help?
- Panicked and Listening

Dear PAL: You’re not alone. Anonymous Americans have been turning to strangers for unbiased personal advice for centuries. While those of us at State of Affairs may not be qualified to distribute such guidance, Amy Dickinson of the syndicated advice column “Ask Amy,” will be joining us on Monday to talk about the past, present, and future of the advice column. Between Anne, Abby, Amy, and the numerous advice outlets offered in cyberspace, there will always be a place to turn. Listen to the Show
