From Kentucky Public Radio's Tony McVeighKentucky is clarifying the state's policy regarding the lowering of state and U-S flags in honor of military personnel killed in action in combat zones.Under the state’s revised flag policy, flags will be lowered to half-staff for any member of the military who deploys from a Kentucky military base into a combat zone and is killed in action.David Altom of the Kentucky National Guard says that key provision was omitted last week, when the state announced it was changing flag policy."Soldiers who deploy from Kentucky, we consider them part of the Kentucky military community and feel they deserve just as much recognition as those from Kentucky," says Altom. The flag policy also includes native Kentuckians, non-natives who have declared Kentucky their home and all members of the Kentucky National Guard. Flags will be lowered to half-staff at sunrise and raised to full staff at sunset on the day of the fallen soldier’s interment.
