Wayside, EDBA Wait For Landmarks Commission Hearing

An agreement still hasn’t been reached between Louisville’s Wayside Christian Mission and the East Downtown Business Association in their dispute over the planned demolition of several mid-19th century buildings along East Market Street. The association has asked Wayside for a 60-day moratorium on the shelter’s plan to tear down the buildings as part of an expansion project. Wayside’s administrators said they would agree to that if certain criteria were met.Association President Bill Marzian says it appears more likely the dispute will be heard by a third party."We are still considering the conditions we talked about with Tim and Nina Moseley. But we’re rapidly approaching the Landmark Commission meeting which will be held this Thursday, and I’m not quite sure an agreement can be reached before that meeting," he said. The business association is asking the Metro Landmarks Commission to designate the buildings as historical landmarks to prevent their demolition.Without a moratorium or the granting of landmark status, Wayside could begin demolition early next week. You can learn more about this story here.
