The High Cost of Being Poor
Who would have thought that being poor would be expensive? It's true, from picking up toothpaste to getting checks cashed to purchasing home mortgages, residents of low-income neighborhoods are paying more on average for the same goods and services than those living in high income parts of town. What causes this phenomenon to occur? How does this problem weigh on the shoulders of those struggling to climb out of lower income areas, particularly single women and mothers?
