Northup Hints at Shape of Race Ahead

Northup declared victory in last night’s Republican primary, leading with more than 75 percent of the vote.  She hopes to re-take the seat she lost to Yarmuth two years ago.Her conservative platform promotes drilling for oil in previously untapped US reserves.  She also supports building the border wall to keep out illegal migrants and not raising taxes.This November, Northup is likely to challenge her opponent’s ability  to secure funding for large-scale projects for Louisville.  At her headquarters yesterday, Northup criticized Yarmuth’s record:“Big projects so important to the future of this community, things that have simply folded up or been lost.  The East End Bridge, was ready for construction when I left office two years ago, and it has totally stopped.”The economic landscape has changed in the last two years.  And the state must also put up money for the project—money it doesn’t have now.  Still, Northup will insist there’s been a lack of action on infrastructure projects.
