City budget cuts have not stopped Louisville’s 21st Century Fire Plan.In a groundbreaking ceremony for a new firehouse in Butchertown today (Thurday) Mayor Jerry Abramson said the money for updating public safety facilities has been saved as part of a capital investment.“Budget cuts don’t effect the replacement. In fact, this new facility will be much more efficient, more cost effective and there’ll probably be an ultimate savings in terms of just the year-in, year-out running of the firehouse itself.”The Butchertown firehouse is expected to open in January of next year. Construction begins on a new station in Portland next week and a firehouse in Beechmont will be completed by 2009.
