LMPD May Store Explosives Near Reservoir
The Louisville Metro Police Department is planning to store ammunition and other supplies at a facility near the Cardinal Hill Reservoir in South Louisville.Metro Councilman Doug Hawkins will hold a public meeting Wednesday night to discuss the plan. He’s concerned about the fact that the LMPD told him unexploded bombs could also be stored in the facility.“How can we say that we aren’t going to get a chemical or biological weapon in the future?" he says. "How can we promise the community everything’s going to be okay?”Barbara Crow is the public information officer for the Louisville Water Company. She says the facility will follow all federal guidelines and will not harm the reservoir’s water supply.“We are not going to allow anything near a facility if we think it’s going to compromise the health or safety of our water supply or the customers we serve and we absolutely don’t think this does that," says Crow.Crow adds that if something did happen to the water, other storage facilities could provide clean water to South Louisville until Cardinal Hill was back online.
