Site Selected For Memorial and Playground

Plans are moving forward for a playground and memorial in Louisville to honor children who have victimized by crime. Officials with Metro Parks and the private fundraising group called the “Fight Crimes Against Children Partnership” announced Wednesday it will be located at the South Louisville Community Center on Taylor Boulevard.Metro Parks spokesperson Jason Cissell says the project will be completed in two phases.“The playground will be completed by July 2008, and that’ll be behind the community center, which is a really safe area, its really visible from the community center and there’s also a police training academy there, so there’s a good police presence there which makes it a really safe location for children and families to play.”Private fundraising efforts continue to fund the memorial, which will be a six-foot tall granite and bronze structure designed by Louisville sculptor Ed Hamilton.
