Kings of Leon have dominated my radio since their sophomore release, Aha Shake Heartbreak became the soundtrack to one of the most memorable summers of this decade. Since then, they have become inescapable when talking about today's greatest bands, both in my circle of friends as well as the world (and some would argue the world, long before us). Their musical stylings are unique both in the melodies and lyrics and... lets not be too difficult here: They're a heck of a lotta fun.
I sat down with drummer Nathan Followill in the basement of the beautiful and historic Palace Theatre before their Inauguration Day concert. Blanketed in the haze of the odd smelling cigarettes that were just out-of-view, we talked about politics, serpents and fire, and how touring with a band is a lot like having sex with a girl. Enjoy.
