The 2016 New Music Festival at the University of Louisville opens this evening with several faculty members from Conservatory of Castilla-La Mancha presenting a program at the Rauch Planetarium. The festival also features Mexican-American composer Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez, a professor from Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY.
In an interview with Daniel Gilliam, Sanchez-Gutierrez talked about being a Mexican-born American citizen in 2016, his early days as a political activist in Mexico, and his complicated path to becoming a composer.
