2008 Classical 90.5 Young Artists Winners' Recital

Young musicians from around the region performed at Louisville Public Media for the Classical 90.5 Young Artists Competition sponsored by PNC Wealth Management. The winners of this year’s competition were part of a winners’ recital on the live broadcast of Lunchtime Classics on Wednesday, December 3rd.This year’s winners are cellist Anne Richardson (1st Place) and pianist Connie Wu of Mason (2nd Place). Honorable mentions go to violinist Mary Gail Richardson, pianist Alice Liu, violinist Grace Yu and pianist Andrew Jones.String players, pianists, harpists, singers and chamber ensembles ranging in ages from 10 to 18 brought their considerable range of talent to Louisville’s Fine Arts Station and this important regional event. This year’s competition had 21 participants. “I'm always amazed by the incredible talent this contest draws each year,” says Classical 90.5’s Alan Brandt. “Many of these young musicians will be on the national and international stages in the future.” Following the performance, winners will receive trophies and prizes. In addition, their performances will be submitted to the nationally-syndicated radio program From The Top, a showcase for the nation’s most talented young musicians.The judges for this year’s competition included Assistant Louisville Orchestra Conductor Jason Weinberger, IUS Music Department faculty member and String Clinic Director Helen Bohannon, and Classical 90.5 host and artist in residence Nada Loutfi.
