2014 Kentucky Primary: Bill Hollander Wins District 9 Race, Hopes to Win Opponents' Support

After a crowded, 13-person primary, Bill Hollander has emerged as the Democratic candidate for the Louisville Metro Council's 9th District.Hollander had Mayor Greg Fischer's endorsement and a fundraising advantage over most of his opponents.“It takes some funds to get your name out and to get your message out, particularly in a field of 13 people, but I think the most important factor was direct contact with voters," he says.Hollander beat his next-closest opponent by 400 votes. But due to the crowded field, he ended up with just over a quarter of total votes cast. He says he hopes to win the backing of his opponents and their supporters as he heads to the general election.“We've really had no cross words in the entire campaign," he says. "As I said, I respect them very much. I'm glad they ran in the race. I hope they stay involved and I'm going to look for every opportunity I can to get them involved in District 9.”Hollander will face Republican candidate Laura Rice in November. The 9th District covers the area around the Crescent Hill neighborhood, and is currently represented by Democrat Tina Ward-Pugh, who is retiring. Here are the full results:
