Mary Evans Sias will retire this summer as president of Kentucky State University.Sias, a Jackson, Mississippi, native, has led the historically black university for 10 years.In a statement, Sias said: βWhile there is always more that could be done, now seems like the right time to step aside and let the next person provide the momentum to continue to move the needle forward for KSU.βLast year, Sias spoke with WFPL's Phillip Bailey about challenges facing K-State. You can hear that here.K-State plans to name an interim president by the time Sias leaves on July 1.The university's regents also plan to act quickly on choosing a firm to assist in the process of finding a permanent president through a national search.
