Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome will head to Baltimore to race in the Preakness Stakes, the second leg of American horseracing’s Triple Crown. Despite the elusive allure of the sport's grandest prize, California Chrome’s trainer, 77-year-old Art Sherman, is confident his horse has what it takes.“I want to tell you something," Sherman said Saturday after the Derby. "I think California Chrome is the rock star, and I’m his manager, and I’m going all the way.”There hasn't been a triple crown winner since Affirmed won it in 1978.The Preakenss will be May 17. The third and final leg of the Triple Crown is the Belmont Stakes in New York on June 7.California Chrome is the first California-bred Derby winner since Decidedly in 1962.“I told people that this colt would go down in history, when he wins the Triple Crown, he will be the first California bred to ever win the Triple Crown and that’s where he is going," Sherman said. "This colt is going to fly first class but my wife and I will probably fly coach again.”
