A retrospective of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s 1969 “bed-in” at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal opens in downtown Louisville's Muhammad Ali Center on Saturday. The Give Peace a Chance traveling exhibition runs through May 26. It's also partnering with Abbey Road on the River, which coincides with the exhibition's last few days in Louisville. More on that below. This year is the 45th anniversary of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “bed-in” for peace. From May 26 through June 2, 1969 Lennon and Ono lay in bed, read Lao Tzu, recorded the anthem “Give Peace a Chance,” and opened a dialogue with the world about peace and chaos. The Give Peace a Chance exhibition will feature the images of photographer Gerry Deiter, who was on assignment for Life magazine and the only photographer to stay at the “bed-in” the entire 8 days. Visitors will be able to read first-person accounts of participants of the “bed-in,” view the documentary "Give Peace a Song" and take photos on a set resembling the hotel room in Montreal. The exhibition will collaborate with the Abbey Road on the River festival of all things Beatles, which will be held from May 22-26 at Waterfront Park. The Muhammad Ali Center will host many of the concerts scheduled for Abbey Road on the River this year. Abbey Road ticket holders will be allowed $5 exhibit admission during the 5-day festival. In addition, attendees to the Give Peace a Chance exhibition will have the opportunity to participate in a festival-sponsored scavenger hunt. Scavenger hunters will be entered for a chance to win two Platinum Ultimate Tickets to Ride, which gives participants full access to the festival’s events and priority seating. The first 50 people in attendance at the Give Peace a Chance on April 5 will get a free general admission ticket and a free 21-and-under-ticket to Abbey Road on the River. Admission to the Give Peace a Chance exhibition is included in the regular Ali Center admission price. Information can Abbey Road on the River can be found at arotr.com.
