Kentucky State Auditor Adam Edelen will soon contact Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer to discuss a potential audit of the KFC Yum Center. The arena recently suffered a downgrade of its debt to junk status. Louisville Metro Councilman Dan Johnson iscalling for an audit.Auditor's office spokeswoman Stephanie Hoelscher says Edelen will call Fischer about the matter soon. The auditor "has to make a determination, gather some initial facts, and you know, that’s … what I think he’s doing, or plans to do in the next few days, is reach out to certain stakeholders and sort of get his bearings and get a handle on what kind of a situation we’re looking at and whether it is something that the auditor’s office should get involved in," Hoelscher says. But an audit could pose a political problem for Edelen, who is rumored to be mulling a gubernatorial bid. Andrew Beshear, son of Gov. Steve Beshear and a fellow Democrat who is running for state Attorney General, sits on the arena authority’s board of directors.Hoelscher says that connection won't be a factor as Edelen considers whether to conduct the audit.“Politics is politics, but I think Adam has a track record of not shying away from an examination just because it might ruffle somebody’s feathers in his party," she says.Hoelscher says Edelen will treat the arena audit as if it were any other case brought to his attention.
