WFPL's Holiday Program Schedule

With the holidays comes holiday specials. Here's what we have planned for the next week:Ask Me Another Holiday SpectacularSaturday, noonChristmas isn't until Wednesday, but you can open this present early. It's a holiday-themed hour of puzzles and quizzes featuring host Ophira Eisenberg and comedian John Hodgman, "Daily Show" co-creator Lizz Winstead, and writer A.J. Jacobs.America's Test Kitchen Holiday SpecialSunday, noonJoin Chris Kimball as he talks to some of his favorite guests about their happiest holiday memories. There'll be wine tastings, a history of bread pudding, a recipe for fallen chocolate cake and a review of kitchen gadgets for those last-minute stocking stuffers.Tinsel TalesMonday, 8 p.m.Finish wrapping those presents and enjoy this trip through the NPR archives, with pieces from David Sedaris, Bailey White and John Henry Faulk.All Songs Considered for the HolidaysTuesday, 7 p.m.We know. You're tired of having holiday music played at you. But you won't find these tunes coming through any department store loudspeakers. Join Bob Boilen and friends as they bring you the best new holiday songs from emerging artists, complete with plenty of snappy barbs and holiday snark.Jonathan Winters' A Christmas CarolTuesday, 8 p.m.It's the best "Christmas Carol" this side of the Muppets. Master comedian Jonathan Winters performs a reading of the classic holiday work that Dickens used for his own presentations.Tinsel TalesWednesday, 1-3 p.m. Revisit even more holiday favorites from NPR. In this special, you'll hear the most requested holiday stories from holidays past. Gather the family around the radio for tales of joy, hope and childhood memories.Christmas MashupWednesday, 8 p.m. The nog is running low and everyone is looking at you like it's your turn to take the bag of torn wrapping paper down to the curb. Ease the tension with this mix. It's producers describe it as a "collection of holiday stories, found-sound and sampled songs: A bell-ringer at the Mall of America. Holiday history as told by second-graders. A trip to the toy store. Carols sung by Zulu children in a South African orphanage. And holiday bits from Bing Crosby, George W. Bush, and The Beatles Fan Club Christmas message."A Season's GriotThursday 9 p.m.Acclaimed storyteller Madafo Lloyd Wilson brings us an our of tales and traditions of African-American and African peoples.This year's guest griots are…our youth.
