WFPL is seeking an Online Managing Editor to ensure the accuracy, timeliness and creativity of our digital content. The position is the bridge between the on-air news operation and the online news operation and will work with the News Director to create, curate and edit digital content and expand distribution. The position will also work with the newsroom to develop daily and long-term coverage plans.Essential duties:
- Work with reporters to present materials produced by the WFPL newsroom online
- Create web-original content Act as a curator to aggregate relevant content from external news sources
- Manage WFPL's social media presence
- Work with the news staff to fulfill WFPL's digital strategy
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required skills:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Experience reporting and editing
- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills
- Broad knowledge of current events
- Demonstrated skill writing for the web
- Skill with the technology and tools required to produce and present high-quality multimedia content Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects and deadlines
- Excellence in news analysis and interpretation
- Strong news judgment
- Demonstrated understanding of social media concepts including the ability to use social media to further reporting and build networks and expertise in blogging best practices
- Ability to solicit and edit work from talented contributors
