Kentucky state Senator Tim Shaughnessy, D-Louisville, has officially resigned.Last fall, Shaughnessy announced he was not seeking re-election after serving more than 20 years in the state legislature. And with no plans of a special session or imperative issues on the interim agenda, Shaughnessy says now is the best time to step down."I will always be grateful for the opportunity I have been given to serve in the Kentucky state Senate by the voters of Jefferson County and I am thankful for their patience and support during my time of service," he said in a statement.Attorney Morgan McGarvey won a crowded Democratic primary last month. He is unopposed in the November election.
