A major repair project begins tomorrow on the Kennedy Memorial Bridge. The span, which carries Interstate-65 traffic over the Ohio River, will be reduced to two lanes in both directions while crews repair and resurface the bridge deck.Andrea Clifford with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the $18 million project will continue through the end of July."The contractor is replacing the expansion joints and they’re doing concrete patching on the deck. Then the final step will be to place an asphalt waterproofing membrane across the deck over top of the concrete. That will provide for a smoother ride for motorists," she said. Clifford says the project will also require some ramp closures of varying lengths.Motorists who cross the Kennedy Bridge during the morning and evening commutes are urged to alter their travel or work schedules when possible to avoid major delays. "It may take a few days for people to try some different things and find out what actually works best to help them get around. But we’ve really tried to compress the time frame for the construction work to minimize the impacts as best as possible," Clifford said. The Kennedy Bridge lane reductions begin at 8:00pm tomorrow.
