NCAA: U of L Women Fall to Maryland; UK Advances

The Louisville Cards were eliminated from the women’s NCAA tournament last night, falling to second-seeded Maryland 72-68 in College Park, Maryland.Shoni Shimmell led U of L with 22 points. The Cards finish the season with a 23-10 record.The Terrapins advance to the regional semifinals in Raleigh, where they’ll take on defending champion Texas A&M.In Ames, Iowa, the Kentucky Wildcats held off a second-half surge by Wisconsin-Green Bay to escape with a 65-62 win. The second-seeded Wildcats advance to the Sweet Sixteen round next Sunday in Kingston, Rhode Island against Gonzaga.

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
