The Sherman Minton Bridge is once again open to traffic. The westbound lanes of the bridge opened shortly before midnight. The bridge, which carries traffic on I-64 across the Ohio River between Kentucky and Indiana, was closed in September after bridge inspectors discovered a crack in a beam.Since then, crews have been working to reinforce the bridge's weight-bearing beams. The bridge's closure reduced Louisville's Ohio River crossings to two, and caused headaches for commuters. Mayor Greg Fischer sent out a statement praising construction company Hall Contracting for finishing the job nearly two weeks before the deadline.
