Public Invited to Comment on Bridges Project in Meetings This Week

Louisville area residents have another opportunity to weigh in on the Ohio River Bridges Project in meetings today and tomorrow. An Environmental Impact Statement was released last month, outlining the costs and environmental issues with several different project alternatives. The cheapest option would reduce the project’s cost by about $1.2 billion and has now been identified as the preferred alternative. The plan is the same as what Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and the governors of Kentucky and Indiana proposed in January. The approach would rebuild the Kennedy Interchange in its existing location and reduce the proposed East End Bridge from six lanes to four. It would also allow tolls on the bridges. There will be two public meetings to provide information and take comments from the public—one in Kentucky and one in Indiana. The Kentucky meeting is today from 4 to 8 at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. The Indiana meeting is tomorrow during the same times at the Holiday Inn in Clarksville.
