Today at 2:00, the Emergency Alert System's First Test

At 2:00 this afternoon, all radio and television stations in the United States will air the first ever test of the Emergency Alert System. The test will last about a minute. The new EAS replaces antiquated systems and allows the president to address the nation in case of an emergency. The president decides when to activate the system nationally, and the test will determine how reliable and effective the new system is. The FCC website has more information on their website. You can also visit ready.gov for emergency preparedness tips.
