The process of hiring a new superintendent for Jefferson County Public Schools takes a major step forward this week with the selection of two or three finalists.School board chair Steve Imhoff says the panel will pick the finalists Wednesday and invite them to Louisville to meet the public in early June.Five semifinalists were interviewed by the board Friday and Imhoff says he’s certain the new leader will ultimately be chosen from the group."Yes I am," he said. "And the whole board is confident that will happen."The names of the semifinalists have not been disclosed. The board will also appoint an interim superintendent during the Wednesday meeting. That person will oversee the district from July 1 until the new leader is on the job. Current Superintendent Sheldon Berman’s contract expires June 30. The board voted in November to replace Berman, who has since accepted a superintendent’s job in Eugene, Oregon.
