Governor Steve Beshear and Kentucky Community and Technical College System officials are working with churches across the state to increase the number of African-American Kentuckians with college degrees.Over the last eight years, state colleges awarded almost 102 thousand bachelor degrees. However, less than 65 hundred went to African Americans."So the primary goal of the Super Sunday initiative is to connect and inform minority students about what it takes to get into college and to then assist them. Not only inform them, but to assist them in achieving their post secondary education goals that they will have," says KCTCS President Dr. Michael McCall. The churches will host free college fairs with representatives from the state's 16 community colleges on the 27th. The representatives will give out information on admission, academics and financial aid.
