JCPS Surveys Sent Out, Officials Hope Parents Respond

by Graham ShelbyJefferson County Public Schools is sending out its annual comprehensive school survey Monday. The survey is a series of questions aimed at parents, teachers, school staff and students in grades four through twelve.Marco Muñoz is a research evaluation specialist with Jefferson County Schools. He says the survey is not academic in nature. Rather, the questions are designed to reveal how members of the school community feel about the experience of school.“‘I get individual attention from my teachers,’" he says, reading a question from the survey. "Another one: ‘I feel that I belong in my school.’ This idea that if I feel part of something bigger than myself, a place where I am well-received, I am going to like to be part of that school.”Muñoz says many students, teachers and staff return the survey, but the district would like to see more responses from parents.“It would be really important for us to get your perspective about how good of a job we’re doing with your kid," he says. "This gives you an opportunity to give us your feedback and see where we are and see what we can do because there’s always room for growth.”The surveys are digital, but parents without computers or internet access can request a paper copy. The deadline to turn in surveys is February 25th.
